Another fantastic image on a medal from Uruguay. This was commissioned by the General Administration of State Power Plants (Administracion Generale de las Usinas Electricas del Estado) to commemorate the inauguration of the thermo electrical power plant in Montevideo in October 1931 named after one of its former Presidents Jose Batlle v Ordonez. The obverse has another great modernist image of a power station in relief with words stamped underneath - I can only decipher three being "Inauguracion de los" and the date "14 de Octubre 1931" It is signed "S Pose". The reverse is stamped "Administracion Generale de las Usinas Electricas del Estado Central Termo Electrica JoseBatlle y Ordonez". It is stamped 'Tammaro" - the minter.

José Pablo Torcuato Batlle y Ordóñez
(1856 – 1929)
Jose Battle y Ordonez was the president of Uruguay in 1899 and from 1903 until 1907 and for a further term from 1911 to 1915. He was the son of former president, Lorenzo Batlle y Grau and was generally credited with transforming his country into a stable democratic welfare state.
During his two periods in office, Batlle y Ordóñez inaugurated labour reforms, limited the profits of foreign-owned businesses, encouraged migration, nationalized and developed public works, ended the death penalty and protected illegitimate children.
